Environmental Management
Development and implementation of practices that ensure the environmental sustainability of the land and resources. Specifically demonstrating management practices to ensure:
- Soil condition, structure and fertility.
- Water quality.
- Biodiversity.
- Management of plant and animal pests.
- Waste management.
Animal Health and Welfare
Sheep are managed to ensure that the five basic freedoms are provided:
- Proper and sufficient food and water.
- Adequate shelter.
- Opportunity to display normal patterns of behaviour.
- Physical handling in a way which minimises pain or distress to the animal.
- Protection from, and rapid diagnosis of, any significant injury or disease.
Chemicals and Waste
The use, storage and disposal of potentially hazardous chemicals and farm waste do not endanger the health, safety and well-being of personnel, stock, or the environment.
Social Responsibility
To ensure a safe working environment and positive impact on peoples’ happiness, well-being and productivity in their activities associated with the operation of the sheep farming business, and conformance with NZ employment laws.
Documentation and Wool Quality
Systems are in place to ensure that adequate records are maintained to supplement the requirements of the various regulations and Codes of Practice identified in this document.
Record keeping to reflect good farm management practices and support the Wool Partners International traceability initiatives.
